White Fillings Means No Mercury
In the past, silver (or amalgam) fillings were our only choice. Not so today!
In addition to their unsightly appearance, amalgam fillings actually weaken teeth and have high mercury levels. All of this has today’s patients switching to the more advanced technology of white (or composite) fillings.
Dr. Hahn can replace your amalgam fillings with composite ones that bond to the tooth and restore most of its original strength. Composite fillings restore the natural appearance of the tooth, are less sensitive to hot and cold, and are mercury-free. For new cavities, composites require less removal of tooth structure. The result is less drilling because you get to keep more of your original tooth!
Fortunately, silver fillings can safely be replaced with Tooth Colored Restorations.
Advantages of Tooth-Colored Restorations
There are many advantages to tooth colored restorations. Resin onlays are bonded to the teeth creating a tight, superior fit to the natural tooth. Such restorations can be used in instances where much of the tooth structure has been lost. The tooth remains intact and stronger.
The result is a beautiful smile!
Silver fillings are easily replaced
by using a tooth colored restoration. You have a couple of different choices of material used. The most common is called composite. It is a material made with a mixture of glass and plastic that is bonded to your tooth. The other choice is a porcelain filling called an inlay or an onlay. Normally this takes two appointments. Traditionally this restoration is made at a lab, so an impression is taken of the prepared tooth and a temporary placed.
THIS PROCEDURE JUST TAKES ONE VISIT IN OUR OFFICE DUE TO THE NEW CEREC 3D TECHNOLOGY.
The porcelain restoration is milled right here in the office providing you with the comfort and efficiency of this great technology. The advantage of porcelain fillings is that they are stronger, last longer, and fit better than composite restorations.
Your teeth are restored to a natural look and feel, they are stronger and the tooth is protected!
